Searching instagram for new music can sometimes be a time consuming task, but it's all worthwhile when you come across a gem that you instantly connect with. Safiyyah is today's gem.

Born and raised in West London, boasting a Mediterranean cultural background with Portuguese / Moroccan roots, Safiyyah’s talent is immediately undeniable.

Her debut single ‘Grow’ crosses typical genre borders, laying an addictive and funky bed combined with intermittent saxophone instrumentals that entices from the get go. Her gorgeous vocals provide an insight into the journey Safiyyah finds herself on as she explained to us when we spoke to her, “This song to me is about love and growing not only by yourself but with your other half together. Praising your loved one and lifting them up and letting go of any resentment or pain of any sort. This song is about just letting loose and being free mentally, the fact that it is upbeat gives that sense of fun as well.”

Her captivating vocal ability is second to none and is not out of place amongst the growing list of up and coming female UK soul artists. Not only is she an amazing singer/songwriter, but also an aspiring producer, who’s music shares vulnerable lullabies on the harsh naïveté in the pursuit of our passions.

Newly signed to Polarface Records, a London-based independent label notable for their grit and ambition, this is only the beginning for her and we can’t wait to hear more. You can see her live next on the 20th November at the Folklore in Hackney where she will be supporting Mercy’s Cartel.
