2018 has been a big year for the UK R&B scene, with artists such as Jorja Smith, Nao and Mahalia hitting the headlines. One name that you might be hearing a lot more of in years to come is one Jamilah Barry, following the release of her debut project Salix Babylonica.
Produced by Uno Nam with support vocals from long term collaborator Midnight Phunk, the 8 track collection draws on a bold fusion of jazz, soul and R&B, boasting Jamilah’s emotive lyrics with imposing vocals. Our personal favourite is the effortlessly soulful Voix de Raison.
The release of the project comes after the attention surrounding her previous releases, most notably her debut, ‘Dance Moves’. With fans like BBC Radio 1Xtra’s own Jamz Supernova, Jamilah is set for big things.
